If you or your spouse are showing the signs of emotional infidelity then you need to get help, fast! Emotional infidelity can be devastating to a marriage, and in many cases, it will lead to physical infidelity as well. Here are some signs that there may be emotional infidelity going on in your relationship.
There is more interest in spending time with someone other than your spouse.
If you look forward to spending time elsewhere, even if that time is only spent through email or on the phone, then this may be a sign of emotional infidelity. Spending an unusual amount of time on the computer or the telephone may mean that there is emotional infidelity taking place with another person.
There is little interest in sex.
While sexual problems can be the cause of many things, if there is little or no interest in sex because you or your spouse is tired or too busy, then it could be that these needs are taking a back seat to an emotional connection elsewhere.
There is a sudden need for computer privacy.
If computer passwords are suddenly being changed, if emails are being sent only on a particular device, if the computer is in a locked area that the other spouse does not have access to, then there may be some emotional infidelity going on. Think about it. Unless one spouse works for a secret government agency or a secret military operation, why is there the need to hide anything? Usually, that sort "privacy" is only wanted when something unhealthy is going on.
There is a lot of resentment and hypercriticism.
If there is constant comments about a spouse's appearance, constant bickering over small things and constant obvious resentment when in the other person's presence, it may be clear that all positive emotion is invested elsewhere. If one spouse is avoiding the other or has no interest in working on the relationship, then this could be a sign of an emotional affair.
